'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Great Olympic Mystery

There appears to be some confusion surrounding an absence of friendlies at Griffin Park this pre-season.

Brentford had originally commented that 'No football matches, or any other sporting event, open to the public can be held in a London borough between Wednesday July 25 and Monday August 13' - however both Dagenham and AFC Wimbledon have announced home friendlies during this period.

Beesotted's Larry Signy has subsequently been in touch with the London Olympic Authority who have indicated that ''There are restrictions within the Host City contract that state that no major event can be held in any city hosting an Olympic event for a week before, a week after or during the Games.'

'As your football match (a friendly at Griffin Park) isn't a major event, it will be fine to go ahead with this.'

It would certainly be unusual to go a whole summer without home supporters having the opportunity to watch new signings - or for the players themselves to gain experience of playing at Griffin Park before the season begins.

Hopefully it might not be too late to organise a fixture or two - IF our calendar permits and IF the statement from the London Olympic Authority is correct (the actions of Dagenham and AFC Wimbledon would suggest it is).

Over to you BFC.
