The Football League clubs have voted to bring back seven rather than five substitute places next season.
The change of rule for this season was aimed at bringing down costs for clubs who couldn't afford to populate a seven man bench. This arguably led to valuable fringe players such as Sam Wood being starved of first team opportunities - and has proved unpopular with the majority of league clubs.
The return to seven subs should also see an immediate benefit for Brentford's Academy squad who should see their chances of a squad place - and potential first team action - significantly increase.
One negative repercussion could occur within the loan market where clubs in higher divisions retain their own younger players to fill a bench and would be less likely to loan them to League One sides.
