'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The season is nigh

Brentford kick off their season on Saturday in the Capital One cup away at Walsall.

Their League One campaign kicks off the following weekend with a trip to Bury on Saturday 18th August followed by home games against Yeovil (Tuesday 21st) and Crewe (Sat 25th).

On paper it looks like a winnable group of games and Uwe Rosler will be keen for his team to take their unbeaten pre-season form into the new season

The Bees won 4-1 at Wycombe tonight in another impressive showing with some encouraging signs along the way - in Farid El Alagui we look to have found a proper partner for Clayton Donaldson whilst the overall football seems to have taken another step in the right direction. The pre-season trip to Germany also seems to have worked wonders both for team and supporter relationships.

Uwe has boosted his squad with other permanent signings such as Harlee Dean, Adam Forshaw and Tony Craig whilst a full pre-season for potential match winner Harry Forrester adds some guile to the squad.

Left footers Leon Redwood and Stuart Dallas are unpolished raw recruits who look to have real ability and wonderkid Michael Onivwigun has made a couple of useful cameo appearances in the friendlies.

One thing still blatantly missing is a left back - Craig Woodman, Sam Wood and Pim Balkestein all left the club for pastures new over the summer. Uwe has talked of plans to re-sign Jake Bidwell but the Everton starlet is yet to return whilst surprise triallist Gregory Vignal (formerly of Liverpool and Birmingham) pulled a hamstring just 35 minutes into his debut last night.

Bidwell may yet sign but if he doesn't we are realistically left with playing Tony Craig at left back, or bodging in Shaleum Logan or Kevin O'Connor with talented rookie Alfie Mawson coming onto the bench as central cover. Not an ideal Plan A.

Uwe also needs to add another central striker to the mix - although talks with Charlton's Paul Hayes are reported to be progressing. Myles Weston has had a decent pre-season so might not be the worst choice as cover with academy squad players Luke Norris and Antonio German waiting in the wings.

Beesotted feels that exciting times could be ahead, but we really could do with hitting the ground running. That said, we've not been this excited about the dawn of a new season in years.

Come on you Reds.
