On a sweltering afternoon at Griffin Park a late Farid header finally broke the deadlock to ensure a bees win and a climb into the top six.
It was a day of fluffs. One after another chances came and were fluffed. I don't remember the Colchester keeper making a save in the first half yet we should have had three goals, Dave and Clayton being the worst culprits. Forshaw dictated play from the left of the diamond and linked well with the in-coming Bidwell, while Farid's link up play up top was excellent throughout. Most of our first half chances came from there.
Unfortunately, the first half saw Colchester have three chances too, one well saved by Moore and a couple of gilt edge chances go just wide of the post.
More of the same in the second half but the bees restricted Colchester to just one or two chances while we continued to make and fluff plenty more. A one on one with the keeper for both Clayton and Farid were wasted. Douglas lunged at a cross at the back post but the keeper was equal to it. Finally with just two minutes on the clock Forrester crossed from the byline and just a couple of yards out Farid fought off the attentions of keeper and defender to get his head on the ball and in the net.
We had decent shouts for two penalties but Stuart Attwell was having none of it.
We dominated play and kept the ball well and made lots of chances but need to trouble the keeper more.
Douglas started the game at the back of the diamond but grew into it more as we pushed further forward in search of a winner.
Donaldson's overall play was good and created chances for others but was just too profligate in front of goal and being replaced by Hayes was no surprise.
Saunders was poor throughout and Forrester stepping in added a bit more energy to the side and the cross for the winner was superb.
Adeyemi looks a class act and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.
Moore; Logan, Craig, Dean, Bidwell; Douglas, Forshaw (sub Adeyemi 69 mins), Dave, Saunders (sub Forrester 51 mins); Farid, Donaldson (sub Hayes 63 mins).
Subs not used: Lee, Kev, Barron, Legge.
