Kerschbaumer Loaned To Arminia Bielefeld

Kerschbaumer Loaned To Arminia Bielefeld

Earlier this week, Brentford announced the departure of Konstantin Kerschbaumer, who has been loaned out on a season-long deal to Arminia Bielefeld.

The Austrian midfielder will now have a year of regular first team football with the German second tier side, which he hasn't always been able to secure during his two years at Griffin Park so far.

Unable to guarantee Kerschbaumer, 24, the football he's looking for, Dean Smith is in agreement he needs it, the Brentford boss was happy to let the Austrian, a player he said he still has 'high hopes for', leave on a temporary basis.

Smith told the Official Website: 'When we reviewed last season, Kersch was obviously disappointed with the lack of game time during the first two thirds of the season and was looking for guarantees for this season. With the quality we have in the squad, we cannot guarantee game time for anyone. I fully understood his concerns, that at his age he needs to be playing regular football and we felt it was in the best interests of both Kersch and the Club that he went out on loan somewhere to get the game time he desires.'

Adding: 'We have allowed him to join Arminia Bielefeld on loan so he can get the games he needs. Playing regular matches will keep his development going, not playing regularly could stall his progress and we do not want that. He is a player we still have high hopes for.'

Kerschbaumer has made 27 of his 52 appearances in all competitions for Brentford from the bench since his undisclosed fee arrival from FC Admira Wacker Modling in July 2015.

An agreement to the midfielder leaving Griffin Park on loan came after Kerschbaumer agreed to a renegotiation of his contract Brentford contract, the club now holds the right to extend him current deal for another year until 2020.
