Smith Reflects On Forest Defeat

Smith Reflects On Forest Defeat

Head coach Dean Smith has spoken of his frustration at Brentford's defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Welcoming former manager Mark Warburton back to Griffin Park for the game, Brentford were on the wrong side of a seven goal thriller as we went down four three to the visitors on the day and Smith knew we should've taken something from it.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media for his post game press conference, a disappointed gaffer explained.

'We definitely should have taken something. I know that sounds mad when the opposition have come here and scored four goals: two world class ones and a deflection. We were in absolute cruise control for 40 minutes. We were well on top of the game and created chances that we didn`t take. We deservedly took the lead but the game turned on the last five minutes of the first-half and the first five minutes of the second-half. We will look back the goals that we conceded and see if we can improve from there.'

Admitting that we left ourselves too open in this one, he knew we just had to turn our attentions to Bristol City in midweek now and look for three points there.

'After the third goal, we thought we had to go and chase the game. We were two vs two too often and we left our centre-halves isolated. They got the ball into Daryl Murphy and had runners coming off him. I thought we did a little bit better when we got Romaine Sawyers and Kamohelo Mokotjo on as sitters. We have to put the disappointment of the result behind us and concentrate on Bristol City now.'

With substitutes Ollie Watkins, Romaine Sawyers and Neal Maupay having an effect, it was Maupay who made it four three but there wasn't enough time for the equaliser and Smith wouldn't rule out changes for the next game.

'I have just said to the players that there are shirts up for grabs. We have lost the first two games. I don`t think we warranted the two defeats but it is what it is. You have to play to the best of your ability to keep the shirt. It is too early to say for Tuesday but maybe conceding four goals we need to change things. I have certainly got the quality to do that.'

Forest are flying high with two back to back wins plus they finished last season very strongly, they are one of the form teams at the moment.A thrilling match which this team was unfortunate to loose,Two great goals from Forest however the defence simply must tighten up,you can't carry on shipping in so many goals if the team is to have a realistic chance of making the play off's.The matches are coming thick and fast now so it's time to make amends.
