Three Valuable Points For Smith
Head coach Dean Smith has reflected on three valuable points taken from Bolton Wanderers in yesterday's Championship game.
Heading to the Macron Stadium for the game yesterday, goals from Yoann Barbet, Nico Yennaris and Ollie Watkins gave us the comfortable three nil victory as we picked up our first win of the campaign and a delighted Smith told the Official Site.
'Our performances this season have been very good and it was very good again today. We took three valuable points with three wonderful goals. I didn`t think we started very well in the opening ten minutes. They got into our faces and we didn`t move the ball as we would have liked but after that we took over the game. The other side of the game was very good today. We had to defend our box and we did that. They have a lot of height and power but we dealt with that really well today. The disappointing thing for me was that we didn`t take our better chances.'
With it being our first victory in nine attempts so far in the Championship, Smith repeated it had been long overdue as our performances hadn't warranted the results we were getting but he was always confident things would turn and the group had remained confident as well.
'I have never seen a drop in confidence from the players. There is a belief about how we play. I told the players that as long as we show commitment and work ethic then we will be ok and that showed today.'
With Derby County up next in midweek, Smith knows it'll be another tough game at Griffin Park but he's hoping for back to back victories to really get us going this year.
'It is a home game and we want to get a win for our home fans. It will be a tough game as they are one of the favourites to get out of this league. Gary Rowett did really well at Birmingham City and now he is at Derby. It is going to be a tough game. Today will certainly give us a boost having gone so long without a win. Hopefully we can take that into the next game. It is another big week against two teams who are destined to be in the top six. We feel that we have competed with every team we`ve played so far and should have more points than we have. We have to go and prove that in these games.'
