Bentley Looking For More Luck

Bentley Looking For More Luck

Goalkeeper Dan Bentley has admitted Brentford haven't quite had the 'rub of the green' so far this season but he's hoping that changes after the October international break.

Brentford sit in 19th place in the Championship table after eleven games, but have picked up six draws and only one win but undoubtedly with the performances put in, games could certainly have turned out differently.

Speaking to the Official Site this weekend with the break in full force, the 24 year old admitted that the side hadn't quite had the luck they should've done so far this year, but he was confident that with the work the players were putting in, that would soon change.

'We`ve continued the work that we were doing prior to the international break. There`s things that we wanted to iron out and during the last few days we`ve been working hard to utilise the international break to make sure it`s an advantage. It should stand us in good stead going forward.'

With one loss in the last seven games, Bentley knows we are performing well but of course that does lend itself to frustration with the points return and the lack of wins.

'I feel a bit indifferent regarding the season so far. The performances have, on the whole, been excellent, but results-wise it hasn`t been excellent. It`s been very up and down; it took us a while to get that first win and there`s been games that we should have won and didn`t. We`ve not got the return that we wanted or perhaps deserved - that`s something that we`ve addressed as a team and as long as we keep doing the right things we`ll start getting wins. It`s a cliché but everything evens itself out over the course of the season. I think we`ve had a lot of our bad luck early on - we`ve not quite had the rub of the green at times. We`ve certainly got a group that can compete at this level, we`ve shown that. I`m sure that the fans are frustrated that we`ve not picked up the points but they can certainly see when we`re performing well - there`s no two ways about it, we`ve performed well'

Having been handed the captain's armband for the closing stages of the draw with Middlesbrough, Bentley said it was a responsibility that he relished and something he's certainly not against doing again in the future.

'I`ve always tried to have that leadership skill in my game ever since I was young. It`s something that I wanted to grow up with and the captaincy is certainly a role which, if it was ever offered to me, I`d thrive off. John Egan is the captain and Nico Yennaris is the vice-captain which I`m fully respectful of; they`re both good pros and good lads and I get on with both of them extremely well. It was a great honour and a privilege to wear the armband for the first time in my career.'
