Canos To Miss The Next Three Following Red

Canos To Miss The Next Three Following Red

Brentford have confirmed that having taken the decision to not appeal Sergi Canos' red card in the defeat to Derby County, the player will now serve a three game suspension.

Heading to Pride Park at the weekend for the Championship tie, the Spanish attacker was shown a straight red card in the 21st minute of the game on Saturday and the decision has been taken to not appeal the suspension even though the club continue to feel it was harsh.

He will now miss the upcoming games against Preston North End, Sunderland and Birmingham City.

Speaking to the Official Site yesterday to confirm the lack of an appeal, Smith explained.

'The referee told us he sent Sergi off because he went in to the tackle with excessive force. In order to have a red card overturned we need to be able to prove that an obvious error has been committed by the officials. I still do not think it is a red card offence but the terminology used makes it unlikely an appeal would win. We do not want to risk an accusation of a frivolous appeal and losing Sergi for more than three games so we will not be appealing.'

Disappointing but if based on the FA's rules the chances of success aren't even 50/50 and we lose him for an extra 90 minutes, the club's hand has been forced.
