There's No Lack Of Character At Brentford

Brentford skipper John Egan has said clearly fans can see there's no lack of character at the club, but obviously we have to get back to winning ways more regularly after additional points were dropped against Preston North End at the weekend.

Hosting the side at Griffin Park for the tie, the visitors took the advantage in the 54th minute as Tom Barkhuizen found the net, but Florian Jozefzoon had us back on level terms within ten minutes and that was where the scoring ended despite them going down to ten men and us having a raft of chances add another goal to our tally.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, Egan admitted we were having a tough time of it of late but again he didn't feel the result had matched our efforts on the day and that's something they have to continue to work hard to turn around.

'It was a bit of a scrappy game. Like ourselves, Preston like to get in people`s faces and that made for a lot of second balls. We picked them off a couple of times and worked some good chances in the first half, but we were more in control during the second half. They scored out of nowhere, but we bounced back well and I really thought we`d go on and win it at the end. If there`s one thing this team doesn`t lack, it`s character. We plugged away and Judgey came very close with a free-kick, but it just wasn`t to be in the end. If we keep that character on our side it`ll take us a long way.'

With the Irish international completing his first 90 minutes since December, he added he was certainly feeling that following the game but he had enjoyed getting 90 minutes back under his belt again.

'I`m a bit tired. I hate missing games and the concussion was a bit of a scary one as it took a good while for me to get better. Thankfully I`m back playing now - the medical team have been great with me and waited for the right time to re-introduce me. Hopefully I`m back fit and healthy now.'

With confirmation ahead of the game of Lasse Vibe's departure, he had praise for his former colleague and also offered praise to Neal Maupay who worked his socks off up front in Vibe's absence.

'Lasse`s been a great servant to the football club and a great team-mate for me personally. It`s football: people move to different teams and we wish him all the best in China. I hope he does well out there and enjoys the experience. I thought that Neal had a very good game in that position today. He linked the play well and found some good positions. He shows in training during the week that he`s a very good player and you could see that today. He should take confidence from his performance; hopefully he can kick on now.'
