One Of The Best Of The Season For Mokotjo
With Brentford preparing for tonight's hosting of Birmingham City, Kamohelo Mokotjo has reflected on the first half showing against Sunderland at the weekend and the South African felt the opening 45 minute performance was up there with the best across the season so far.
Having opened the scoring at the Stadium of Light as he found the net in the 13th minute before Neal Maupay doubled our advantaged and closed out the scoring with an effort two minutes ahead of the half hour mark, speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media on Monday, Mokotjo felt the first half has been 'perfect' from us.
'That was one of our best away performances. It was a perfect first half, but we knew that they would come harder during the second half. At times we gave away a few chances but it`s good to come away from home, score two goals and keep a clean sheet. We knew about their history at home this season, but we were only focused on ourselves. Sunderland`s comeback against Bristol City was mentioned during the week. They`re a team towards the bottom of the table so they have to maintain their fighting spirit. We worked hard to control the game and did that really well during the first half.'
With a bit of a barren spell for the player, it was actually his first goal since September 2016 and he went on to joke.
'I always say if I score, we win. I don`t get to score much! I just aimed between one of the player`s legs in the box and got a clean strike on the ball. It was a great goal - I enjoyed it. It doesn`t matter how long it`s been since I last scored, what makes it special is that it`s my first goal for Brentford and that we got the win here today.'
A dance is of course his natural celebration and he said the team had encouraged him to do it.
'I joke around a lot. The boys asked me to dance so I did that for them! It`s how I express my joy - it`s one of the best goals I`ve scored.'
As for Birmingham City at Griffin Park later this evening, with the Sunderland victory behind us, he said everyone in the camp was determined to register back to back victories now.
'We take it one game at a time. Especially at this point in the season, it`s important to focus on the game in hand. We`ve got to take the mentality from today and apply it to the next game.'
