Stalemate at Griffin Park

Attendance: 6950

It was honours even at Griffin Park today, as Brentford and Brighton fought out a committed if largely uneventful 0-0 draw.

The nearest Brentford came to scoring was near the final whistle when substitute Marcus Bean failed to make the most of a dangerous Cleveland Taylor ball at full stretch.

Brighton had their chances too, but Lewis Price's handling was good throughout the game and he made smart stops from Navarro and Wright.

It would be unfair to say that Brentford played poorly - with the likes of Wood and Weston putting in good performances - but we failed to dominate in possession or put the Seagulls under sustained periods of pressure.

In truth Alan Bennett found Liam Dickinson a real handful and Carl Cort - whilst playing the ball of the match with an incisive through ball to substitute Taylor - looked lethargic at times and was caught offside far too often.

Today's referee - Trevor Kettle - had a fairly poor afternoon, lacking consistency and allowing Whing to manhandle Weston throughout the game - perhaps taking pity on the visiting full back for being both ginger and balding.

Bees - Price, Foster, Dickson, Phillips, Bennett, Saunders (Taylor), Hunt (Bean), O'Connor, Wood (Kabba), Cort, Weston

Brentford face Norwich on Tuesday and will hope to build on today's draw which leaves them in fifth place in League Two with four points.

Star Player

Myles Weston - whilst the young striker found scoring opportunities few and far between, his pace and movement stretched the Brighton defence particularly during the second half.

Next Match
