Bees fall to sucker punch

Brentford lost to bottom club Tranmere today, falling prey to a well drilled free kick move on the hour mark.

The Bees failed to pick up runner Craig Curran who slotted past Szczesny to win the game for the home team.

In a pretty dire game there was little for Bees fans to cheer about with Brentford creating few chances apart from a few headers from corners and a late Macdonald shot.

Bees - Szczesny, Legge, Balkestein, Foster, Dickson, Bostock, Bean (Hunt), O'Connor, Wood (Cort), Strevens (Murphy), Macdonald

Andy Scott quotes

"It was like time stood still. We all on the bench knew what was going to happen. We presume that even the team knew because it was so obvious. But we don`t react and they score a goal.

It was the worst goal we could ever concede. It took 90 seconds, two minutes, maybe to set it up. Everyone knew what was going to happen. Then apparently they have just gone in there and apparently they wanted someone else to go.

They didn`t pick up the man on the end of the wall. Kevin O`Connor should have seen the runner and gone and shut him down. Simple.

I`m flabbergasted to actually concede a goal like that. We have experienced players on the pitch and it is remarkable, remarkable, that we lost the game due to that goal. It wasn`t even a well worked goal. Nobody gives us goals like that.

We should accept that isn`t right. I can`t have that at all. We`ve lost a game that should have been 0-0. Scrappy, typical league one game. Poor conditions on a sticky pitch. We get a 0-0 and it is three on the bounce before we play Leeds.

We`re looking at the squad all the time and who can do it and who can`t. Obviously there will be changes if people don`t do it and step up to the mark, they will be gone.

I`ve never been slow to get rid of people who can`t do it. But the most disappointing thing is we had something to build on after recent performances
and in a relatively scrappy game of few chances.

We`ve conceded a goal from a set piece, it is not as if we have played any differently. If we had come away with a 0-0 people would have said it was a hard fought draw and you had done well after the Colchester game.

We`ve lost to a scrappy shocking goal and everyone starts moaning about our performances and saying we are different away from home. We`re not different away from home. We`ve just conceded poor goals we should never be conceding. I wouldn`t read too much into it.

Of course it is going to be different away from home, but they haven`t been peppering our goal. We conceded a poor goal and lost the game. We`ve got to start picking up points away from home and we would have got one today but we switched off.

We didn`t play with the energy that we have been doing, but that`s the end of a long spell of games on Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday. It may have caught up with them a little.

But of course you want more quality going forward. We had a couple of good chances towards the end but that was about the size of it."
