Late goal sinks Bees [updated]

Brentford lost 1-0 tonight to Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup at Griffin Park.

The decisive goal came in the 87th minute with James O'Connor left to head home from a Brian Stock corner.

Brentford had a late chance to level through Sam Saunders but the substitute headed wide from 3 yards in the dying seconds.

Doncaster had started the game brightly, working two good chances but shooting straight at Price - with Billy Sharp missing a particularly good opportunity. The Bees fought back however to dominate the rest of the first half with Marcus Bean dominating the midfield and Dickson and Weston marauding down the left flank. Leon Legge also had another decent game.

Doncaster came out the stronger side in the second half and started to dominate the game with Lewis Price making one excellent save to keep the scores level. Brentford dropped deeper as the game wore on, and the players tired, and the visitors looked the more likely winners before their pressure finally told.

This was a good performance by the Bees matching a good championship side for 90 mins. There was good attacking football played by both sides, with the Bees using the flanks well and Donny using the crossfield pass to good effect.

Myles Weston looked threatening throughout but you can't help wondering if he should have gone inside the full back occasionally, it became a bit obvious after a while although he did manage to get some crosses in. Supermac was a livewire throughout, Strevens look a bit sluggish. I know he isn't the fastest thing on two legs but it showed last night.

Legge was his normal magnificent self and saved the bees on more than one occasion with well timed tackles and courageous blocks. Marcus Bean had one of his more classy games. Yes, we all know Ryan Dickson is brilliant so I won't go on about him!

Bees - Price, Foster, Legge, Bennett, Dickson, Wood (Saunders), Bean (Hunt), O'Connor, Weston, Macdonald, Strevens

Unused Bees - Moore, Phillips, Osborne, Ferrell, Bostock.
