Brentford 1-2 Middlesbrough - Play-Off

1 - 2

Griffin Park

08/05/15; 7:45pm

Attendance: 11,691

Brentford go into next week's play-off semi final second leg at Middlesbrough looking to overturn a first leg deficit following our injury-time defeat at Griffin Park on Friday, after we had dominated the second half but couldn't turn this dominance into more goal than the equaliser we had managed....

Having come back from a goal down it looked like we would head to the Riverside Stadium on level terms but that late Middlesbrough winner gives them a two-one advantage that we'll be looking to overturn if we want to keep the Premier League dream alive.

As expected the opening to the game was 'cagey and scrappy' with Judge having the first clear cut chance but Middlesbrough 'keeper Konstantopoulos saved before Vossen (26) found himself unmarked to head home a Clayton's corner and put the visitors ahead at the midway point of the first half.

Had it not been for Button, as he managed to recover and make a save, Vossen would have made it two before the break.

We made the perfect response in the second half as Gray (54) brought us level within 10-minutes, he didn't give up what some might have felt was a 'lost cause' to charge down a Konstantopoulos clearance to leave himself with an empty net to score into to equalise.

Adomah was denied by Button with the Middlesbrough 'keeper Konstantopoulos making up for his error to pull off a fine save to deny Douglas who looked like he would put us ahead with his header.

In the dying second, with a draw looking on, with the ball dropping to Amorebieta (90+3), who had come off the bench, he struck the winner deep into injury-time.

If we're to keep that Premier League dream alive we'll have to do what we've done so often this season, win away from Griffin Park and I'll not be betting against this. Given our record of seven unsuccessful promotions from seven previous play-offs attempts the odds are against us mind but the momentum of successive promotions could drive us on!

This defeat was a setback, obviously, but it's not over! Before we focus on the second leg we want to know who, in your mind, was the Brentford MotM from this defeat on Friday?
