Lloyd Owusu

Pen Pic

Lloyd Owusu must be one of Brentford 's all time most lauded players. He inspired songs, t-shirts, goal celebrations and chants by the bucket. There aren`t many professionals who can claim to have been immortalised by Status Quo.

Lloyd joined from non league Slough in 1998 and formed a strike partnership with banjo-barn-door-cows-behind expert Scott Partridge. He immediately made an impact and for a big fella developed over two seasons into a striker who could run at defenders with pace and deliver a great end result. He was undoubtedly the player who contributed most to the teams promotion from the dour basement division in the 98/99 season when he finished division top scorer with an impressive 22 goals in his debut season.

Over the next few years he continued to feature prominently without reaching the same scoring heights but came close in the Coppell era in 2001/02 leading the team to the brink of automatic promotion. By this time Owusu status had become such that most of the Brentford faithful owned Owuuusuuuu 'raise the roof` t-shirts lauding Lloyd`s unique goal celebrations.

Following the teams failure to reach the Championship in 2002 Lloyd moved to Sheffield Wednesday and Reading before finally coming home in 2005 much to the delight of the lady Bees fans and Martin Allen. He played no small part in creating opportunities for the fledgling DJ Campbell to sparkle up front and using his experience to make up for his gradual loss of pace. He still managed to notch 14 goals in just under 50 appearances and could never be accused of shirking or feigning injury. It was in his second spell Lloyd has honoured by Status Quo bassist John 'Rhino` Edwards with the excellent tribute song 'Owusu The one and only`.

Lloyd now plys his trade in Australia.
