Steve Coppell

Pen Pic

Coppell was a very popular manager at Brentford, putting together a team which played some breathtakingly good football from 2001-2002 under chairman Ron Noades.

His team included players who went on to play in higher divisions - such as Steve Sidwell, Darren Powell, Lloyd Owusu, Gavin Mahon and Martin Rowlands.

The team failed to get promoted via the playoffs, after missing out on automatic promotion by a whisker as a late Jamie Cureton equaliser saw Reading across the finish line in second place.

Coppell left the club soon after, citing a lack of funds as the reason, and has since managed both Brighton and Reading - the latter in the Premiership.
