Chic signed for Brentford in 1963 and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club. His career was cut short in peculiar fashion when he collided with a dog (possibly a Jack Russell) that had run onto the pitch at Colchester United.

He was stretchered off and never played again - commenting "the dog might have been a small one but it happened to be a solid one".

The incident was captured on TV camera and thus has a place in football folklore.

A guy in the Master Robert Pub in Heston tells the same story about Chic Brodie, everytime I go in there, which is about twice a year....
