Ron went on to play for The Bees after transferring from Bradford Park Avenue for a then record fee of £9,000 (!!).
A thoughtful rather than physical central defender, he played almost 150 games at Griffin Park and was one of the first-ever active players to qualify as a coach on an FA course.
After packing up playing, he eventually became manager of West Ham and led them to wins in the FA and European Cup Winners Cups and got to the final of the League Cup. His team included the immortal Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, who were the backbone of England`s World Cup winning team in 1966.
Ron himself took over the reigns of the English national team before retiring. A true Brentford, England, and World footballing great
