Big Carl - who won over the crowd with his technical ability during his injury disrupted time at Griffin Park - joined Brentford in the week leading up to the 2009 season.

He spent the first half of 2009 on loan at Norwich City who were subsequently relegated from the Championship.

Carl has previously played for Wimbledon, Newcastle United and Wolves.

Cort takes a place in football folklore in a story about the late former England manager Bobby Robson who was known for struggling with player's names.

A journalist asked Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi what Robson called him on the training ground. His reply was "Carl Cort".

Cort resigned for a second year at Brentford during June 2010 but barely featured at first team level due to injury. He left the club by mutual consent in January 2011.
